7 Must-Have Beef Jerky Flavors

7 Must-Have Beef Jerky Flavors

Choosing your favorite flavor of beef jerky is like choosing your favorite child—well, almost. At the very least, deciding which flavor is best can spur great debate among jerky aficionados, particularly if they have discovered Crockett Creek’s deeply satisfying, down-home products. Try all 15 flavors we make, then decide for yourself. Nonetheless, here are seven we think you should not live without:

1)    Original: It all starts here, with our lightly marinated classic recipe shining through. The Southern slow-cooking approach makes for moist and chewy jerky that is perfect in texture, savory in flavor and it will make your mouth water.

2)    Garlic: This is for the garlic lovers out there, and that means almost everybody. The flavor of this chewy jerky is dripping with the goodness of garlic—in fact, we like to say that we sprinkle a little meat on our garlic.

3)    Ol Smoky: This is one of our customers’ favorites, and when you experience that smoky taste you’ll know why. Slow-cooked to infuse it with that satisfying savoriness, it is rich, chewy and packed with the smoky goodness of the outdoors.

4)    Steakhouse: This is one of our new flavors, and already it’s a hit. After all, who doesn’t like the flavors and smells of their favorite steakhouse? Now you can merge that love with our robust, soul-satisfying steak-infused jerky.

5)    Sweet Heat BBQ: Our other new flavor is already a classic and will have you feeling like your sitting around the barbecue pit. Crockett’s Creek blends together the sweet sumptuousness of a summer barbecue with a little good old-fashioned heat.

6)    Bayou Boil: What do you get when you blend the deliciousness of New Orleans cuisine with the down-home goodness of true Southern cooking? Well, our Bayou Boil beef jerky.

7)    Buffalo Jerky: The American bison nearly went extinct a couple hundred years ago, but we are happy to say it is back in huge numbers. So are fans of our amazing buffalo jerky. This lean, luscious, healthy meat is high in protein and low in fat and cholesterol. That’s why it won a ringing endorsement from the American Heart Association. It’s also why it wins a hearty endorsement from us, too.

Ultimately, you should remember that Crockett Creek beef jerky is a great snack and also makes a great meal when you’re on the go. It’s also convenient, as all of our flavors come in handy re-sealable zipper pouches. As for which flavors are best, we’ll let you make up your own mind.

Are You A Beef Jerky Kind Of Man Or A Hot Dog Kind Of Man?

Thursday, January 19, 2017 12:34:51 PM America/New_York

Are You A Beef Jerky Kind Of Man Or A Hot Dog Kind Of Man?

Ahh, yes, the age-old question: What kind of man are you? Beef jerky or hot dog? Answer carefully, because the choice says a lot about who you are. Now, we know you hot-dog guys like yours a certain way, with particular condiments, and a nice warm bun, and really, that’s okay. We beef-jerky guys, on the other hand, don’t have time for all that, but we still want big taste and high protein and serious sustenance for our stomachs. Luckily for you hot-dog guys, Crockett Creek’s big selection of flavors and meats will have you tossing your limp, soggy frankfurter in the can. All you have to do is give it a try.

Down-Home Goodness

Crockett Creek started in our small, Southern kitchen using simple, wholesome ingredients, making jerky the old-fashioned way. It became so popular among family and friends that we decided to start sharing our recipes with our neighbors, and then, beef-jerky fans in the rest of the country. So in 1994 we opened the doors to our Knoxville, Tennessee headquarters and started selling our many flavors of zesty, flavor-packed beef jerky. Today, we offer more than a dozen different versions of our jerky, plus a few of our signature spice blends, for sale on our website. Oh yeah, hot-dog man, we even offer jerky made from buffalo, elk, and venison, so drop the mustard and ketchup get with the program.

Classic and Innovative Flavors

Some say that nothing can replace the classic beef jerky, and our original recipe is moist and chewy with a light-marinade flavor that shines through. You don’t have to choose, though, because you can enjoy our original flavor and so many more beef varieties, including our Blazin’ Cajun, Peppered, Garlic, Teriyaki, Fire, Legendary Barbecue, Ol Smoky, Sweet N’ Spicy, Jalapeno, and Bayou Boil. As mentioned, don’t forget to try our buffalo, elk, and venison varieties.

Want to bring the taste of Crockett Creek home and re-create it on your steaks and barbecue? Then give our marinade and spice mix a try as well.

So really, hot-dog men, do you truly prefer those things to hearty, tasty, chewy, satisfying Crockett Creek beef jerky, now available in re-sealable, plastic zipper bags? We didn’t think so. Don’t worry, though, we won’t tell anyone you are on our mailing list and have converted. You are in good company now.

7 Ways to Use Beef Jerky as an Appetizer

Monday, December 19, 2016 1:02:13 PM America/New_York

Ah, beef jerky. The surprisingly healthy snack is ideal for road trips, hiking trips, and any other time you need food that doesn’t spoil easily. Yet beef jerky also lends itself to a variety of recipes, including yummy appetizers. Check out the following ideas to use at your next shindig. Your family and friends will love your creative use of jerky!

Tomato and Cheese Appetizer

Add beef jerky to a tomato-and-cheese appetizer to create something that’s both delicious and filling. Simply cut beef jerky into ¼-inch pieces and do the same thing with the tomato. Spread goat cheese on crackers and then top with the tomato and jerky. Add parsley sprigs, salt, and pepper to heighten the flavors.

Tomato Sauce

Create a unique tomato sauce to use as an appetizer dip with beef jerky. Soften the meat with boiling water so the result isn’t super-chewy. Use ingredients such as green pepper, chopped onion, heavy cream, and minced garlic, to create a delicious sauce ideal for mini grilled cheeses. Cut the jerky into bite-size pieces with kitchen shears before you throw it in the sauce.

Jerky Bruschetta

Use jerky in bruschetta recipes to give the appetizer a meaty kick. Experiment with different seasonings until you have the recipe just right.

Jerky and Cheese Plate

Do something different with your next cheese plate—add jerky! Substitute typical deli meats for jerky. Friends and family are sure to notice you opted out of ho-hum pepperoni this go-around.

Papaya and Beef Jerky Salad

Serve salad that includes jerky as an appetizer at your next event. Vietnamese papaya, Thai basil, and beef jerky combine to make a unique and delicious salad everyone will love. Use about two pounds of shredded papaya for best results. Make your own dressing with ingredients such as soy sauce, garlic, sugar, and vinegar.

Fried Jerky

Forget mozzarella sticks—why not serve fried jerky at your upcoming gathering? Fry the food however you see fit and include one or a variety of sauces for dipping. This includes marinara sauce, of course!

Jerky in a Blanket

Substitute hot dogs for beef jerky to make the appetizer classic, Pigs in a Blanket. Sure, the meat being used is no longer pig, but it’s still a cool twist on an old favorite. Name the appetizer depending on the type of jerky used, such as Turkey in a Blanket.

What do you think of these Jerky ideas? Are you inspired yet?

Why Your Next Occasion Calls for the Gift of Beef Jerky

Thursday, November 17, 2016 3:38:01 PM America/New_York

Give the gift of beef jerky this holiday season, or any other time gift-giving is part of event fun. Jerky comes in many tantalizing flavors and varieties, allowing you to pick the right option for the right person easily. Take a moment to review why beef jerky makes a wonderful gift before you start browsing.

Beef jerky is actually very healthy! Instead of giving friends and family candy and chocolate baskets this year, try baskets brimming with jerky. A single serving of beef jerky contains between 9 and 15 grams of protein, and it’s 97 percent fat-free. The snack is also very low in calories and otherwise nutrient-dense. It subsequently satiates you without increasing your caloric intake very much. even ranked the foodstuff as the No. 1 protein snack in today’s market. Jerky does require salt to make, but low-sodium options are available.

Jerky is a highly convenient snack. Moisture and fat are removed during the preservation process, making jerky a snack possibility that lasts a long, long time. There’s no fear of spoilage with beef jerky.

Portability is yet another example of why beef jerky makes a great gift. There’s zero need to bring special containers or ice when packing beef jerky; simply throw it in a bag and go. It’s a favorite of hikers and camping enthusiasts who need sustenance that won’t go to waste in their packs. Athletes also love it because it makes a mess-free snack in between sweat sessions.

Lots of Options

Jerky comes in a wide variety of options in addition to beef. For example, you could easily create a jerky gift basket that includes beef, venison, buffalo, and teriyaki options. Specialty jerky is also available and includes Cajun-style, garlic, pepper, barbecue, sweet ‘n spicy, and jalapeno flavors. Present a jerky gift basket to the dried meat enthusiast in your life, or to your next office shindig so your co-workers can choose from many savory options. There are also special marinades and spices that make excellent additions to any jerky gift basket.

A Unique Gift

Rather than getting friends and family “boring” or “thoughtless” gifts, such as gift cards and socks, give the wonderful gift of jerky and surprise the people you love. Jerky is a unique gift that’s (again) much healthier than most food-based presents, such as chocolate, roasted nuts, candy, and caramel popcorn.

Make the people around you smile at your next gift-giving event or holiday gathering with a fantastic jerky assortment. They will toast your taste and creativity.

When it's appropriate to gift a man with beef jerky

Thursday, October 13, 2016 2:40:07 PM America/New_York

Beef jerky offers a number of benefits. Not only does jerky taste great, but it is lean, low in fat, low in calories and high in protein. Jerky is definitely an improvement over snacks with empty calories, such as chips and sugary treats. Jerky is also a guy favorite, one that is sure to be appreciated, whether you're looking for a gift for your boyfriend, husband, brother, boss or best friend. When is it appropriate to give beef jerky? We think any time, but we've offered a few suggestions to get you thinking.

Occasions to give beef jerky as a present

1. For a bachelor party present. If a guy in your life is getting married, he's likely swamped with gifts of towels, dinnerware, pillows and other household necessities. A gift of beef jerky, perhaps paired with some cheese and a bottle of red wine, can be a welcome departure from all of those "couples gifts." Plus, a food gift can help your guy and his crew keep from getting too inebriated as they celebrate the end to his bachelor life.

2. As a present to welcome a new baby. Jerky also makes a great present for a new father. Unlike those politically incorrect cigars, the new daddy can hand out jerky to his friends to commemorate the occasion.

3. As a birthday present. Of course, who needs cake with they can have jerky? Make your guy's birthday memorable by serving beef jerky at the celebration rather than cake and ice cream. If you just have to have a candle to blow out, you can arrange the jerky around a large pillar candle instead of the traditional assortment of little candles.

4. For a Just because present. Who says that there needs to be a special occasion to give a gift? Why not surprise your guy with a tasty jerky treat on a Tuesday just because you think he's great? Sometimes those "just because" gifts are the best ones.

Why Wouldn't You Beef Jerky?

Thursday, September 15, 2016 3:32:48 PM America/New_York

Beef jerky has had a place in America’s culinary history from the days of the Wild West up to the present. Today it’s one of the most popular of snack foods, rivaling even potato chips and popcorn. For most people there’s only one reason to eat beef jerky - because it tastes great! No other snack quite satisfies that craving for meaty savoriness like jerky.

But there are many other reasons to indulge in beef jerky besides taste, including some that may surprise you. Read on for some of the things that make beef jerky such an awesome food.

6 Great Things About Beef Jerky

  • It’s good for you. Because most of the fat and moisture is removed from beef jerky when it’s made, it’s a great source of protein, up to 15 grams per serving, and it’s about 98% fat-free. Because if its high protein content, beef jerky is a favorite of body-builders, athletes, and those on a diet.

  • It’s convenient. Beef jerky is small and lightweight and easy to carry, which makes it a top choice of those on the go like joggers and backpackers, and with campers and hunters.

  • It lasts a long time. Because beef jerky can be stored for months at a time, it’s not a bad idea to keep some in the cupboard and in the car for emergencies.

  • Variety. Beef jerky is the number one type, but jerky can be made from any type of meat, like venison, elk, buffalo, and more. And of course it can be marinated and flavored with all kinds of delicious sauces and seasonings.

  • It’s Native American food. America’s indigenous peoples have been making and enjoying jerky for centuries, and it was actually one of the basic staples of their diet. Before refrigerators it was a simple and easy way to preserve fresh meat that would last for a long time in any kind of weather. The word jerky derives from the native word ‘charqui’, which means ‘burns meat’.

  • Beef jerky has been to space! Because of its portability and high protein content, beef jerky was a regular addition to the food supply on the space shuttle.

Crockett Creek has been making beef jerky the Southern way for over two decades. So when you eat some, remember all the good things about beef jerky and do it guilt-free.

Top Ten Foods to Sneak into a Movie Theater

Thursday, August 11, 2016 2:26:51 PM America/New_York

While popcorn is enjoyable to munch on while watching a movie in a theater, movie theater snacks can be expensive and laden with fat and sugar. Sometimes, you just need to bring in your own snacks, even if it is against the rules. If you're headed to the movie theater, below are a few easy, healthy snacks that fit easily into your purse or pocket.

1. Beef jerky. Jerky is a satisfying and healthy treat. Loaded with protein and low on fat, Jerky will keep you from getting hungry and allow you to focus on the film.

2. Dried fruit. Dried fruit, such as raisins or dried apricots, are easy to eat while you're watching the movie and their complex sugar will keep hunger at bay for hours.

3. Nuts. Nuts, too, make a good movie snack. Roasted almonds, cashews and peanuts all make a healthy treat. Just make sure to buy the low sodium variety.

4. Cheese cubes. If you have a little extra time before you leave for the movie, cut up a chunk of american, swiss, hot pepper or other non-smelly cheese. Put the cubes in a ziploc bag for easy access.

5. Baby carrots. Baby carrots are also easy to munch on and require little preparation.

6. Grapes. Self-contained fruit, such as berries or grapes, are easy to pop in your mouth during the film.

7. Granola bars. Don't discount commercial health bars and snacks. Just make a stop at the convenience store on the way to the movie theater.

8. Snack mix. Snack mix, that garlicky combination of cereal, nuts and pretzels, isn't just for the holiday season. A plastic bag full of this yummy snack makes a good movie munchie. Just make sure to bring some extra napkins, as the buttery mixture can make your hands a little greasy.

9.Celery sticks with peanut butter. Another good plan-ahead snack is to fill bite-size celery hearts with peanut butter and seal them in individual portion-size bags. Extra napkins are a good idea for this treat, also.

10. Seeds. Lastly, seeds, like sunflower seeds, make an enjoyable and satisfying treat, while being easy to carry in a cellophane or plastic bag.

Watching what you snack on doesn't have to keep you away from the movie theaters. Pack a little jerky, dried fruit, buts and cheese cubes in your purse or backpack and eat healthy during the movie.

Top 10 alcohols that go great with beef jerky

Thursday, July 14, 2016 1:18:14 PM America/New_York

Beef jerky is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. It's easy to see why. This traditional food is high in protein, low in fat, easy to carry on camping, hiking and fishing trips, and, most importantly, tastes good. Beef jerky comes in a variety of flavors, from hickory-smoked to teriyaki. The flavor of beef jerky can also be enhanced by pairing this treat with the right adult beverage. Below are our ten favorite alcoholic beverages to drink with jerky.

1. Bourbon. Bourbon, preferably single barrel bourbon, helps to enhance the natural meat flavor of your jerky. The higher the corn content in the bourbon, the better the pairing.

2. Rye. Rye is another drink that is well-suited to pairing with beef jerky. In fact, some bartenders even use jerky as a garnish for certain rye cocktails.

3. Belgian beer. Belgian beer stands up well to the protein in jerky and makes a pleasant, satisfying combination. Stay away from light beers, as they will tend to get lost amid the intense flavors in jerky.

4. Red Zinfandel wine. If wine is your preferred beverage, you'll need a full-bodied red wine to accompany your beef jerky. The slightly-peppery flavor of a red Zinfandel is the perfect choice.

5. Scotch. Lighter-style scotches also make a good combination with traditional beef jerky.

6. Tequila. Lime-infused beef jerky goes well with unflavored tequila.

7. Beaujolais wine. Sweeter types of jerky, such as teriyaki jerky, pair well with light, fruit-forward red wines, such as a Beaujolais or Pinot Noir.

8. Gin. Lemon-garlic flavored jerky tastes delicious when paired with herbal spirits, such as gin, which is made from juniper berries.

9. Sauvignon Blanc wine. The exception to the full-bodied red wine rule applies when you are eating very spicy jerky, such as chili or cajun jerky. For this type of treat, you want to reach for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, the go-to wine varietal for spicy and ethnic-style foods.

10. Irish stout. Another good choice for enhancing the taste of your beef jerky is to drink a pint of Guinness or other Irish-style stout with your jerky. The high carbohydrate level in stout helps to bring out the flavor in the jerky.

The Beef Jerky Revolution

Monday, June 20, 2016 1:05:25 PM America/New_York

One of the most  popular new food trends  in the United States involves one of the oldest food preparations. Beef jerky, made by dehydrating seasoned meat, is prepared today in a similar way to how our cave-dwelling ancestors preserved food thousands of years ago. The curing process takes out the moisture and fat that cause food to spoil quickly, while concentrating the meat flavor.

The qualities that made jerky desirable to the cave men still apply today--it's tasty, long-lasting, lean and portable. However, today's beef jerky is not that same shoe leather that your Uncle Bob brought on camping and fishing trips a generation ago. Today's jerky is tender, flavorful and made with a variety of exotic meats, from bison to venison to ostrich, as well as traditional beef.

Benefits of eating beef jerky

There are a number of good reasons to choose jerky over salty and sugary snack items. Jerky is lean, low-fat, low in calories and high in protein. The protein gives you long-lasting energy without the empty calories of chips or candy bars. Jerky also has a generous amount of zinc and iron, minerals that help to boost your immune response and energy level. Of course, jerky is also easy to carry, wherever you're headed, and stays fresh without refrigeration. Jerky even accompanies U.S. astronauts into space.

What to look for in beef jerky

Choosing the beef jerky that's right for you is really a matter of personal preference. Ask 10 people to name their favorite type of jerky and you're likely to get 10 different answers. It's a good idea to look for jerky that has a lower amount of sodium. (Sodium is a necessary part of the jerky curing process, so you can't eliminate it altogether.) Other desirable qualities include a minimum of flavoring (so you can fully taste the meat) and beef that has been grass rather than grain fed (as grain carries potential GMO issues.)

Jerky makes a great gift for a sportsman, a hungry teenager or a frequent traveler. You can tuck a package of jerky into a gift basket with other snacks or opt to give a variety of different kinds and flavors of jerky. There's even a jerky-of-the-month club.
